JAIPUR: The increasing traffic on M I Road and space requirement of the Metro project requires shrinking of Ramniwas Bagh. A land strip of up to 40 feet width will be required on the side adjoining M I Road and Tonk Road to widen the road and provide space for Metro proposed on Tonk Road.
The remodelling plan for Ramniwas Bagh was presented at a meeting chaired by urban development minister Shanti Dhariwal on Friday.
The minister asked officials to make the changes in accordance to public requirement while suggesting improvement of the proposal.
Traffic needs are rising in Ramniwas Bagh. A prominent tourist destination, it attracts thousand of domestic and foreign visitors each day. Amendments will be required to regulate the visitor pressure and improve facilities for them. Chief secretary S Ahmed suggested better lighting for the large number of evening visitors.
Tourism minister Bina Kak and senior department officials were present. Urban development officials are expected to visit the site on Saturday to evaluate needs before approving the plan.
The JDA has recently received permission for a parking project and beautification of Ramniwas Bagh Campus. However, officials are reluctant to discuss the proposal before site visit.
"A presentation has been made suggesting various changes at the campus, the need of the proposed changes will be evaluated on Saturday," said S K Pancholi, director, engineering, JDA.
Even as the campus is expected to undergo a size reduction, a proposal have been made to increase the green cover. According to the proposal, more trees will be planted and a bonsai garden will also be developed to attract the visitors.
Showing consideration for the large number of old people, a senior citizen park is also proposed at the campus. There will be replicas of major tourist monuments of the state. During the process, the heritage of the campus will also be needed to be conserved.
